GROSS TRAILER WEIGHT (GTW) |
TRAILER TONGUE WEIGHT |
VEHICLE TOWING CAPACITY |
|
The total weight of under fully loaded trailer
conditions, including food water, gear, etc. Measure the gross
trailer load by placing the fully-loaded trailer on a commercial
scale. (See chart to choose the hitch
you need.) |
The downward pressure that the tongue of a fully
loaded trailer exerts on the hitch ball. Tongue weight can be
measured on a commercial scale, or on a bathroom scale, as illustrated.
Be sure the trailer is level and the wheels are chocked. |
The manufacturer's specification of the with
the vehicle is designed to tow. Although some hitches may have
a higher stated capacity since they fit other vehicles, never
exceed the manufacturer's stated trailer capacity. The specifications
are found in the vehicle's owner manual, or can be obtained by
writing to the vehicle's manufacturer. |

Maximum
Capabilities
Our highest rated receiver.
As the weights of recreational vehicles grow, so do the towing
demands on full sized pickups. That's why Ford, GMC, Chrysler
and Chevy offer optional weight ratings which include engine
and suspension upgrades to improve towing performance and capacity.
That's why we offer this totally new line of super duty Class
IV Receivers so that you can sell competitive products and compete
with any hitch manufacturer, anywhere. These unique Receivers
achieve their spectacular weight carrying capabilities because
they are designed for full-size, long wheel base trucks, vans
and sport utility vehicles which have full frames and heavy-duty
suspensions. They are designed with a sturdy 3-1/2" cross
tube and specially designed, super duty side brackets. We also
offer compatible ball mounts and trailer balls to ensure your
heavy duty towing package is complete |
Weight Distributing
GROSS TRAILER WEIGHTS UP TO 10,000 LBS. TONGUE WEIGHTS
UP TO 1,000 LBS.
|
Spread the weight.
Weight is handled easier, when it's spread over a large area
- not centered on one spot.
The problem.
How many times have you noticed a tow vehicle squat down in the
back under trailer load? With front tires unloaded, it's tough
to steer and tougher to stop. Imagine trying to control up to
10,000lbs., on slippery surfaces or mountain terrain.
The solution.
Adding weight distributing equipment to an existing
Class III or IV receiver hitch completely changes how you'll
feel about towing heavy loads. When properly installed (and it
is easy to do) a weight distributing hitch more evenly spreads the
weight over the axles of tow vehicle and trailer.
Two Designs to choose from.
Valley builds two types of weight distribution hitches
- - a round bar and a trunnion bar design. Both work with Class
III and Class IV receiver-style hitches. Each assembly has a
shank that slides into the receiver just like a ball mount, and
locks the trailer to the vehicle. All that needs to be done is
a series of adjustments, which are easy to follow and found in
installation instructions provided. |

(spring-loaded latch with tethered safety pin) designed to hook
onto a Lunette Eye or trailer coupler (Pintle Hook with Ball)
and hold it in place. |
