HITCH TYPES




 Hitches are serious pieces of equipment.  In fact, they have Roman numerals for names, so pay close attention.  Remember, the most important thing between you and that ton of trailer behind the car is the hitch.  Quality and engineering mean everything.






SEMI-CUSTOM HITCH: Attaches to bumper only. Minor drilling will be required in most cases.  Most semi-custom hitches are chrome-plated.  Use trailer balls with 3/4 inch shanks (trailer balls not included).  

FIXED DRAW BAR HITCH: Attaches to bumper and specific frame  points.  Nearly all are chrome-plated.  Some minor drilling may be required.  Accept trailer balls with 3/4 inch shanks (trailer balls not included.)

RECEIVER STYLE HITCHES: Black polyester finish.  Most are frame-mounted, although some mount to both frame and bumper.  May require minor drilling.  Class I & II models include removeable ball mount, hitch pin, safety clip and receiver cover.





CLASS I HITCHES: Designed for light-duty towing needs like motorcycle or snowmobile trailers using compact or mid-size cars with smaller 4-cylinder engines. Includes ball mount, hitch pin clip and receiver cover for receiver-style models only.

CLASS II HITCHES: For medium-duty towing of small camping trailers or small boats using mid-size or full-size cars with 6-cylinder engines or smaller and V-8's. Includes ball mount, hitch pin, clip and receiver cover for receiver models.






Gross Trailer Weight:Up to 3500 pounds


Gross Tounge Weight:Up to 300 pounds


Weight Distributing Capacity:Not with this hitch class


Types Available:Fixed Drawbar or
 Receiver-style













CLASS III HITCHES: Built for towing heavier trailers.  Two-axle trailers, medium-size camping trailers.  Tow vehicles using this hitch class are usually fullsize V-8 cars or pickup trucks and vans. Ball mounts and other accessories available separately.

Gross Tounge Weight:Up to 500 pounds


Weight Distributing
 Capacity:		Up to 10,000 pounds


Types Available:Receiver-style














CLASS IV HITCHES: Available only for fullsize pickup trucks and SUV's.  This hitch can be used to tow very large boat trailers, camping trailers or some commercial trailers.  Vehicles must be rated to tow these weights.Class IV specific mounts and other accessories available seperately.
