Q. When assembling a 3-piece receiver, should assembly
bolts be tightened before installing on vehicle or leave all
assembly bolts loose until receiver is installed on vehicle
frame?
A. No. Leave all assembly bolts loose until receiver
is installed on vehicle frame. This will allow the receiver
frame brackets to better align with their attaching points
on vehicle frame. All attachment bolts will be tightened to
correct torque once hitch has been fully installed on vehicle.

Q. Can the spare tire on my truck be left in the under
body storage location after a Valley receiver is installed?
A. Yes. All Valley receivers are designed to fit around
the factory installed under body spare tire. In some applications
the spare tire will be pushed forward a couple of inches after
the hitch is installed.

Q. What is GTW and TW?
A. GTW is Gross Trailer Weight. This is the total
weight of the loaded trailer as you are towing it down the
highway. It includes the weight of the trailer and everything
that is loaded in it. TW is Tongue Weight. This is the weight
which is supported by the hitch when the trailer is connected
to the trailer ball. Excessive tongue weight can overload
the hitch and cause unstable towing due to the fact that a
heavy tongue weight will unload the front suspension of the
tow vehicle.

Q. What is the difference between a Weight Carrying hitch
and a Weight Distributing hitch?
A. A Weight Carrying hitch is designed to carry the
entire trailer tongue weight at the hitch connection point.
They are used in light duty applications. A Weight Distribution
hitch is designed to distribute the tongue weight over all
four wheels of the tow vehicle and trailer axles. This is
done by using a set of spring bars to apply leverage between
the tow vehicle and the trailer. These hitches can handle
a much higher trailer weight and tongue weight than a weight
carrying hitch.

Q. Does Valley have something that can be used for towing
both a 5th wheel and a gooseneck trailer?
A. Yes. You can install the Valley bed rail kit in
your P/U. This will allow a Valley 5th wheel hitch or Gooseneck
Ball mounting plate to be installed. These two hitch assemblies
easily drop into slots in the base rail where they are locked
in place for use. They are easily removed when not in use.

Q. How can I tow my 5th wheel trailer with my new short
bed P/U truck? There isn't enough cab clearance.
A. You can add the Valley Glider® to your Valley
5th wheel hitch. This will allow 9" of rearward travel
in the 5th wheel, so that the trailer will not make contact
with the truck cab during tight parking maneuvers and turns.

Q. Will I have to drill holes in vehicle frame to install
a hitch?
A.
Valley designs the hitches to fit as many existing holes as
possible. However, some installations will require that holes
be drilled to install the hitch. All no drill applications
are identified in the catalog with a "No Drilling Required"
icon.
